BUDGET WIRELESS GAMING HEADSETS

5. Corsair HS60 Haptic

Gaming Tech Geeky

If you’ve ever wanted to feel your game’s audio, then you’ll want a headset with haptic feedback. There aren’t many out there with this feature and there are even fewer that support this feature for PC gaming. The Corsair HS60 Haptic is one of those few. Some gamers might consider it a bit of a gimmick, but haptic feedback adds a new level of immersion only available in home theater systems or theme park rides. And, this isn’t a simulated feature, either. The HS60’s drivers actually move and respond whenever something happens in your game.

Luckily, you don’t have to break the bank for that feature here, and the headset itself doesn’t make too many compromises elsewhere to squeeze in the haptic feedback. The HS60 is durable, comfortable, and sounds good even when the haptic feedback is turned down or is off. Like most Corsair products, you have access to a number of customizations through the company’s iCue app.

Compatibility: PC | Interface: Wired | Connections: USB | Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000Hz | Surround Sound Modes: No

4. HyperX Cloud Stinger S

Gaming Tech Geeky

The HyperX Cloud Stinger S may be a bit of an oldie, but it’s still a goodie as far as budget gaming headsets go. Not only is it among the least expensive gaming headsets from a well-known brand, but it also delivers a surprisingly solid sound quality and a level of comfort you’d hardly expect from a sub-$50 gaming headset that’s made of plastic. While its soundstage isn’t as wide as most gamers would like, it boasts clear and powerful audio with a big bass response worthy of big in-game explosions.

Despite being made of mostly plastic materials, this headset doesn’t feel cheap. In fact, it feels robust, solid, and decently lightweight at 275g. The earcups are luxuriously padded as well, with a soft leatherette cover and a plush memory foam inside. It’s wired, which means that you’re tethered to your gaming platform when you’re wearing it, but the 3.5mm audio jack works with just about any device – outside of the latest smartphones.

Compatibility: PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Mobile | Interface: Wired | Connections: 3.5mm, USB-A Dongle | Drivers: 50mm Neodymium | Frequency Response: 18Hz - 23,000Hz | Surround Sound Modes: Virtual 7.1 PC Only | Weight: 275g

3. Logitech G435 Lightspeed

Gaming Tech Geeky

Logitech’s carbon-neutral G435 Lightspeed is made for young gamers and gamers with smaller heads. It’s not only smaller and more compact than most gaming headsets out there – the mic is nothing more than a stump on the side of the left earcup – but it’s lighter as well at 165g. That lightweight obviously adds to its comfort, which is made better by the flexible headband and the soft, breathable ear cups.

But don’t take its inexpensive price and small form factor as signs of subpar quality. This budget gaming headset comes with 40mm audio drivers that deliver good – albeit, not amazing – sound as well as support for Dolby Atmos, Tempest 3D Audio, and Windows Sonic. As is the mic, which is technically made up of dual beamforming mics. The wireless connectivity is strong as well. Plus, if you’re getting this for your kid, you know you’ll win points with its fun colorways, of which there are three.

Compatibility: PC, Mac, PS5, PS4, mobile | Interface: Wireless | Connections: Wireless USB 2.0 Dongle, Bluetooth | Drivers: 40mm Neodymium | Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000Hz | Surround Sound Modes: Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic | Battery Life: 18 hours | Weight: 165g

2. SteelSeries Arctis 7X/7+

Gaming Tech Geeky

With the amount of different gaming devices out there, it can be challenging to find a headset to use with them all. Thankfully, the SteelSeries Arctis 7X/7+ do just that. There are two versions of this headset. The 7X is meant for use with the next-generation Xbox consoles while the 7+ is for the new Playstation 5. However, the SteelSeries 7X can be used with just about every gaming device imaginable. And while the 7+ version is slightly more limited in connectivity, it boasts Tempest 3D support and can be used with just about every device that’s not an Xbox.

That multi-platform connectivity essentially pays for itself, but this headset is a bit more expensive than the other budget headsets on here. Thankfully, it offers a whole lot more. For starters, its 24 hours of battery life is quite impressive for a headset. And, like most SteelSeries headsets, it delivers quality sound, an extremely comfortable fit, and a great-sounding mic.

Compatibility: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4/PS5, PC/Mac, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS | Interface: Wireless, Wired | Connections: 2.4GHz wireless USB-C dongle, USB-C wired, 3.5mm | Drivers: 40mm Neodymium | Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000Hz | Surround Sound Modes: 7.1 | Battery Life: 24 hours

1. Corsair HS65 Surround

Gaming Tech Geeky

Corsair delivers an almost unbelievably great wired headset for under $80 with the HS65 Surround. This simple plug-and-play headset connects to your devices via a 3.5mm jack. You can also connect this headset over USB to get 7.1 surround sound for an immersive wide and realistic soundscape. These cans also deliver a neutral sound with superb directional audio, which may also help you place where enemies are in-game. You might be tethered to your gaming rig but the sound coming out of these headphones is more than worth it.

The Corsair HS65 Surround is not chock full of fancy features and instead spends where it matters: sound and comfort. And that audio is delivered through two 50mm drivers housed in soft memory phone earcups. A mix of quality plastic and aluminum bones make up the rest of this fairly minimalistic headset, though some may find that the headband can be a bit tight. You also don’t get all the confusing buttons and dials that some options come with, just a volume dial on the left earcup and a flip-to-mute feature on the non-detachable mic. If you need to make other sound adjustments, you can do it using the iCue software.

Compatibility: Xbox Series X/S, PS5/PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac | Interface: Wired | Connections: 3.5mm, USB | Drivers: 50mm | Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000Hz | Surround Sound Modes: Dolby Audio 7.1 | Weight: 282g
